Symptoms
Blood pressure refers to the amount of blood pumped by the heart into arteries. Most people have heard of hypertension, or high blood pressure. But low blood pressure, while not as dangerous as the high type, can also be hazardous. Called hypotension, low blood pressure is caused by diabetes, heredity, medications, or pregnancy. The condition makes it difficult for fresh, oxygen-rich blood to travel through the body. Thus, people with hypotension report cold hands and feet, and tingling limbs, faintness upon standing as well as symptoms caused by lack of blood to the extremities and head, respectively.
